One Job For Greensboro initiative reaches 68% of goal

One Job for Greensboro

The Greensboro Chamber of Commerce, Guilford Merchants Association, and the City of Greensboro are exceptionally pleased to announce that the One Job for Greensboro campaign has already attained more than half of its goal of inspiring local businesses to
create 1000 jobs.  As a result of the One Job for Greensboro initiative, 70 local
companies have pledged to invest in 684 jobs.

One Job for Greensboro was unveiled in August of 2011 at the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce’s State of Our Community Luncheon, was formally launched at the Annual Dinner of the Greensboro Partnership in January of 2012, and updated numbers were released at last night’s Annual Dinner of the Guilford Merchants Association.  As part of the initiative, companies are encouraged to invest in at least one new job by August of 2012.

“We are very proud of our business community for stepping up and offering its strong support of this important initiative,” commented Deborah Hooper, President of the Greensboro Chamber of Commerce.  “We have made excellent progress so far, and we encourage local companies to continue to invest in job creation and take us beyond our goal of 1000 jobs by August.”

“There are more than 16,000 businesses in Greensboro, and this is an excellent opportunity for each company to do its part to lower unemployment and put our city back to work,” commented Denise Turner Roth, Interim City Manager for the City of Greensboro.

“This is a win-win initiative for both local businesses and job-seekers,” remarked Mike Bumpass, President & CEO of FirstPoint, Inc./Guilford Merchants Association.  “It helps companies to get the word out that they are hiring and allows them to pull from a broader base of applicants.  In addition, job-seekers who are following our updates can get a better idea of which local companies are hiring.”

Several companies and organizations that have agreed to invest in at least one more employee in support of One Job for Greensboro include BB&T, the Center for Creative Leadership, Duke Energy, LF USA, Machine Specialties Inc., Replacements Ltd., Samet Corporation, TIMCO Aviation Services, VF Corporation, and WFMY News 2.

Any job pledged between now and August of 2012 will be counted toward the community’s goal of 1,000 new jobs.  Additional information on the initiative and pledging is available at www.onejobgreensboro.org or by calling (336) 373-CITY(2489) and choosing the One Job option (#2).
