The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) is a public, coeducational, doctoral-granting, residential university chartered in 1891. In 2010 – 11 UNCG enrolled approximately 17,300 on-campus students and more than 1,000 others in distance-learning programs. Twenty-four percent of UNCG students are from out-of-state. UNCG is proud of its ethnic minority enrollment which is about 33 percent.

In addition to the College of Arts & Science and six professional schools housed on the university campus, UNCG has successful partnered with North Carolina A & T to form the Gateway University Research Park home of the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering.
